Then, Some Stuff Happened

At this point, saying that it’s been a while since you lasted updated your blog has gone beyond a trope and into the realm of a bad joke. Nevertheless, it has in fact been a month since you last heard from me on here.

There are plenty of reasons for that, and those who read my previous post may not even be too surprised. A lot has been going on, and much of it is stuff I can’t or won’t talk about here. Right now, I’ve also got a spring cold that I could really do without.

That said, some other stuff has also happened in the interim, and some of it does bear reporting. I’m continuing to work on all the various things that I’m working on, including regular columns, movie reviews, et al. I’ve also been doing some writing for a friend’s video game, which is currently in beta testing phase, if you want to check that out over at The Veiled City.

Right now, finances are rather dire, for a variety of reasons, and I’m actively pursuing other work – either freelance or otherwise. If anyone has any leads, especially for recurring work or bigger projects, I’d be happy to hear about them.

One of the biggest things that’s happened lately has to do with Analog Sunday. Those who have been reading this blog for a while will know that I do two monthly events at the Stray Cat Film Center. One is the Horror Pod Class, a monthly screening and live podcast that I co-host with Tyler Unsell of Signal Horizon. The other is Analog Sunday.

Technically, I don’t host Analog Sunday, but I never miss it if I can help it, and its proprieter Elijah LaFollette has quickly become one of my best and closest friends.

This past Sunday, Analog celebrated its 10 year anniversary. I wrote about the history of the event, my own relationship to it, what it means for the community, and what’s in store for the future over at The Pitch, if you want to learn a little more.

For the event, a sold-out crowd at the Stray Cat watched Shotgun (1989), an Analog classic from the earliest days, which I had never seen because it originally screened before my time. The audience was, in true Analog fashion, alternating between cracking up and being thrown into stunned silence. It was a glorious night.

Much of the rest of what I’ve been doing lately has to remain under wraps. I’ve been researching a new nonfiction book project that is hopefully nearing completion (though when it will near publication is anyone’s guess), I’ve been invited to contribute to an anthology that I can’t announce yet, and I sold an article to a venue that I’m excited about but that will have to wait until another day.

Which is to say that the news hasn’t been all bad, but there has been more than enough bad to go with the good of late. Hopefully we can all keep our heads above water until we wash up on the shores of better times…
